..."I read your blog." Really scary words to hear in person. I do not write a blog. A little demon who lives inside me writes the blog. I just wake up the next morning and wonder "Jesus, what the hell did I just DO?" What was up with those last few? What did this blog used to be ABOUT? I need to write a few more of my "smart" blogs, about geology and evolution and shit.
For the first time in my life, I actually have multiple papers in prep with a the prospect of being submitted within a month or two, in review, and accepted. Crazyness. I've rarely felt so productive. I'm off to Utah to see the Chinle with Jim Kirkland, Russ Dubiel, and Andrew Milner. I've been waiting to get a look at the Monitor Butte Member for a while, and I actually get to see it with Dubiel, which will be awesome.

100% Understanding the feeling of dread you described when hearing the words "I read your blog"... :|
Best wishes,
Nick
I had the same experience several times at SVP - getting randomly accosted by people and being told they read my blog. Instant paralysis occured pretty much every time.
Being the one who uttered those words to you on Friday night, I guess I should apologize. It was absolutely not my intention to cause you any discomfort, and I certainly hope you didn’t feel that I was accosting you. If that’s the case, I am truly sorry. I was definitely excited to learn that we were going have an opportunity to hear a talk given by an expert in this field. Maybe I should have been quiet. I have a great fear, being a significantly older student who has an incredible opportunity to gain an education that I would have squandered twenty years ago, of coming off as a kook or as I imagine my young classmates would say “the creepy old guy that talks too much in class”. It was my hope that you would appreciate the feedback/encouragement, even if it was from a stranger.
While your last couple posts were entertaining and an area of interest to me, the “smart posts” are really why I read. Geology and Paleontology, to me, have always been incredibly fascinating. And with the internet, it has become infinitely easier to learn more. I’m not sure what your motives are for writing on this medium, but I guess I am a reminder to you and the other two commenter’s that you are not writing in a vacuum, and that the unwashed masses have access also, and sometime you might run across one.
I do want to say again that I really enjoyed the presentation, and am glad you took the time to share a small piece of your incredible knowledge with us. Thank You.
Best regards
Marlin
Marlin,
No worries, man. This post was slightly tongue-in-cheek, so I apologize if I actually made you feel bad about it. A lot of the people who follow this blog are people I know who realize that I am full of shit, so I'm really sorry if I sounded like I was offended or something lame like that. If I was really that worried about it, I wouldn't write in the first place, it is just always surprising to realize that a lot of people actually read this.
It was really cool to meet and talk to all of you, and the truth is that it is always nice to hear from someone that enjoys reading, so I actually do appreciate you saying so. You can certainly tell me you enjoy the blog anytime that you like.
Jeff
